American Legion Auxiliary
In the spirit of Service, Not Self, the mission of the American Legion Auxiliary is to support The American Legion and to honor the sacrifice of those who serve by enhancing the lives of our veterans, military, and their families, both at home and abroad. For God and Country, we advocate for veterans, educate our citizens, mentor youth, and promote patriotism, good citizenship, peace and security.

The Jonestown American Legion Auxiliary Unit 883 is looking to sponsor junior females to attend ALA Girls State 2026 from June 21–26 at Shippensburg University. A weeklong leadership and citizenship program. This is a great opportunity that stands out on college applications
The 80th Session of Keystone Girls State at Shippensburg University will take place 21-26 June 2026. Keystone Girls State is a seven-day government education program sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary to educate female high school seniors from across Pennsylvania about leadership and civic engagement. Experience living on a college campus and making friends from all around the Commonwealth.
Founding and Purpose
A Legacy of Service Not Self is Born
The American Legion Auxiliary was established in 1919 as a companion organization to The American Legion, which was formed to support veterans returning from World War I. The ALA was created to honor the sacrifices of those who served and to provide support to veterans, military personnel, and their families. The organization was formed after a committee recognized the need for a women's group that could assist in the Legion's activities, allowing women to continue their service in peacetime as they had during the war.
